MORE INFO AT: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/723888024/luyas-present-everything-outta-sight-a-multimedia

“WHAT: On October 2nd, as a part of Pop Montreal International Music Festival, The Luyas will be staging a free event at Red Bird Studios, a co-op gallery space in the heart of the festival zone. The night will be the culmination of a month of collaboration between the band and a number of Montreal/Toronto based artists, and will be made into a film by the music world’s favorite rogue filmmaker, Vincent Moon. The basic concept is to create a fictional ecosystem in an audience space to enhance a musical experience, so that life can be beautiful and weird and better than usual.

HOW: Installation will take place over the month prior to the event date. Using their combined experience and as much found materials as possible, installation artists Ruby Kato Atwood and Jessie Stein will build a giant fictional environment out of the studio space combining sculpture, stage building, costume-making, and light and effects rigging. Derrick Belcham, an audio-visual expert based in Toronto, will be filming and animating footage to be used as sound responsive projections that will be major features of the ecosystem. Actor, Patrick Costello will develop a group of actors and dancers to be the native creatures of the space. They will wear masks and costumes designed by the installation team, and move under Costello’s guidance. The Luyas will play a full set of music in this weird world featuring new material from their upcoming release.

The entire event will be made into a film to be available on the internet by lauded filmmaker, Vincent Moon, in collaboration with Derrick Belcham. Vincent Moon is best known for his work on La Blogotheque’s Take Away Shows, He deals with visionary notions about images, society and new technologies on his blog (fiumenights.com), and is developing now a lifetime project: to document local energies around the world, as temporary areas, often one shot performances/films, where the limits between creators and audience is blurred as much as possible.

YOUR $$$ will help us pay for:
-certain materials needed for the installation/sculptures.
-the use of the space.
-the gallery rental fee
-the rental of sound and lighting equipment
-sound and lighting engineers for the night of the performance
-extra camera rental
-film editing fees
-web hosting fees for the eventual video

THANK YOU!”

–Noah

Project location: Montréal, Canada”

Hey guys,

well our Pop Montreal showcase has been announced. The show is going to be at Casa del Popolo on Friday October 1st. Here are the details.

2AM- SUPER SPECIAL GUEST

This band is going to kill it, the show to be at on the Friday night at Pop Montreal.

1AM- Cotton Mouth

“… a David Byrne meets Apologies to Queen Mary era Wolf Parade vibe; it’s incredibly catchy, and has the capacity to feel both faintly familiar and refreshingly new. While the Cotton Mouth project is still growing and evolving, [frontman Martin] Horn already has a clear knack for arrangements and skill for crafting songs that just won’t leave your head.” -Crawdaddy Magazine

12AM Hidden Words

“Ever since underground art rockers the Unicorns called it a day in 2004, fans have been clamouring for the Montreal band to reunite. While members Nick Thorburn and Jamie Thompson continued working together in numerous projects, most consistently in Islands, co-founder Alden Penner has kept a lower profile. Before 2009’s stellar self-titled debut by his new Montreal band Clues, Penner had seemingly vanished from major public performances, leaving Unicorns loyalists to wonder about his whereabouts. Now comes word that Penner and Thompson have formed a new band called the Hidden Words….

According to a press release, Hidden Words — the name of the group and evening — play music inspired by great spiritual writing, namely “The Hidden Words” of Bahá’u'lláh, a late 19th century mystical text summarizing the inner truths common to all religions. The release goes on to say that while the medium here is musical, “it is hoped that this can evolve and comprise exploration in film, words and all arts, as these are means of approaching the intangible and mysterious which is impossible in other discourses.” –Exclaim News

11PM Oberhofer

When your songs are too big to be contained: form a band. Maybe call it after your family name because you like the way it sounds (sh*t, if it worked for Bon Jovi then who’s to argue). Record those songs in the basement of your parents’ house in Tacoma. When that burns down, shake it off and move to New York. Find a new band to play with, start working on a symphony (no really, do it), mix your newfound formal training with the noisy exuberance of youth. Get raucous.

10PM Beaver Sheppard

Beaver Sheppard makes low-fi bedroom 4-track songs with his guitar and pieces of drum kit lying around his apartment. Occasionally he’ll tamper with sounds on his MPC2000 and fruity loops. Beaver’s live performances are epic, intimate, heart-warming and sincere. His spastic strumming, garbled and personal lyrics and sometimes wailing vocals can be compared to that of Daniel Johnston.

9PM Leif Vollebekk

“Inland” was released by Nevado Records (Bahamas, Yukon Blonde) on January 19 2010 (Canada), garnering rave reviews and critical acclaim both in Canada and internationally. With upcoming releases in Europe and USA, Leif will be busy touring the world for the rest of 2010. In between tours, he is also working on a second album with famed producer Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Godspeed…) at Hotel2Tango in Montreal, which will be released sometime in 2011.

When asked to describe the new album, Leif says, “Neil Young wanted to sound like a cross between Dylan and the Stones. I want to sound like Hank Williams meets Sigur Ros. Hopefully, I’ll fail and get somewhere else.”

8PM Early Transcendentals

Local trio. No singing, odd times, swings alot,

More details to come soon!

xoxo

“It’s been five years since we last heard from Washington, D.C.’s Medications. Devin Ocampo and Chad Molter formed the band from the ashes of Faraquet, and on the group’s debut EP and first LP, there was a clear tension between the knotty, agile post-punk of their former group and a more pop-informed tendency. Five years later, drummer Andrew Becker has moved on, and that more melodic side of the band has won out. Perhaps having to cover the drums as well as the guitar and bass put the remaining duo in a more studio-oriented frame of mind, but whatever the reason, there’s more layering here, and a much greater focus on tunes, resulting in the band’s best album.”
